Accessibility

Effective: November 6, 2026

We want everyone to be able to read Understanding The Assignment, whatever device, browser or assistive technology you use.

Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, a widely used standard for accessible websites.

What we do

  • Every illustration and fact card has a text description (alt text) that tells you what it shows.
  • Fact cards are images, and their full text is in the image description.
  • Pages work with a keyboard, and a "Skip to content" link jumps past the menu.
  • Stories use plain words, short paragraphs and clear headings.
  • The layout works on phones, tablets and computers, and text can be enlarged in your browser.
  • Ads are labelled, and the ad bar at the bottom of phone screens has a close button.

Known limits

We are still testing the site with screen readers and other tools, and some parts of the page design, such as menus and pop-ups, may not yet work as well as they should. We are working on it.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on the site is hard to use, or you need a story in another format, send us a message through the Contact page. Tell us the page address and what happened, and we will reply and work to fix it.
