Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Effective: November 6, 2026

Several US states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others, give residents rights over their personal information. This page explains where we stand and how to use those rights. It applies to everyone, wherever you live.

We do not sell or share your personal information

Understanding The Assignment does not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. The ads on the site are our own and do not track you. We do not run analytics. We never sell or share email addresses from our newsletter or contact form.

If ad partners are ever added

Some state laws treat the cookies that advertising networks use for personalized ads as "selling" or "sharing" personal information. If an advertising partner, such as Google AdSense, Raptive or Mediavine, is ever added, this page will explain its cookies and add an opt-out control before its ads appear, and we will treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a request to opt out.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we have about you;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • give you a copy;
  • not sell or share it, and not use it for targeted advertising.

We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

How to make a request

Send us a message through the Contact page. Write "Privacy request" at the start, say which right you want to use, and use the email address your request is about, so we can match it to our records. An authorized agent may also make a request for you, and we may ask for proof that they can act for you.

We will reply within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why. If we turn down your request, we will explain why, and you can ask us to look at it again by replying to our answer.
